Complex structures

The free entrance roof synthesizes several of the project's objectives: the position of the building at an urban intersection; the interface and the progressive relationship between public and private space; and the adaptation and integration of important equipment on an appropriate urban scale.

The technical challenge and structural prowess of this element is resolved with a steel structure that supports a 1200m² right triangle-shaped roof - the hypotenuse has a span of 75m - supported on three piers 18m from the ground. The structure is made up of three perimeter beams of variable height on which upper and lower elements are supported, the latter in the form of bars aligned according to the geometry of the laid sheet. The Sports Palace would not have been the same without this unique element that highlights its character by elegantly combining the rigor of the lines, slenderness and cyclopean dimensions.
