Edification
2005
The Shanghai university complex is a great project due to its importance and the project's own purpose: the education of future executives of the Chinese Communist Party. It consists of a library, several amphitheatres, classrooms, a sports complex, student residences and an administrative tower.
This complex program is united by a large red metallic element. The cover of each block is supported by a peripheral metal lattice beam that supports the façade, and a set of transverse beams. The roof rests on both the reinforced concrete structure of the buildings and the lattice elements. In the cantilever area, the supports of the central block are linked by a steel sculpture that evokes Chinese calligraphy. A 300m long walkway connects the different blocks.
